他 今天 想 做 什么? What would he like to do today? Tā jīntiān xiăng zuò shénme? He today-sky want-like do what? 王 小姐 今天 要 去 书店。 Ms. Wang wants to go to the bookstore today. Wáng xiăojiĕ jīntiān yào qù shūdiàn. Wang little-big-sister today-sky want-will go bookstore. 刘 先生 今天 要 去 办公室。Mr. Liu wants to go to the office today. Liú xiānsheng jīntiān yào qù bàngōngshì. Liu first-born today-sky want go manage-public-room. 陈 先生 今天 很 累。Mr. Chen is very tired today. Chén xiānsheng jīntiān hĕn lèi. Chen first-born today-sky very tired. 你 今天 有 一个 测验 吗? Mandarin is a tone language--that is, different pitch patterns actually distinguish one word from another. Mandarin has no irregular verbs or noun plurals to learn, because words have only a single form. Because Mandarin is completely unrelated to any European language, you may think it might be difficult to develop your vocabulary. However, it really is not that difficult. Why? The reason is that the meanings of many words consisting of two or more characters can be inferred from the meanings of the characters or even the roots of individual characters. So, your vocabulary can rapidly expand when you have grasped the basic characters and character roots. |
