Nĭde péngyou huì shuō Hànyŭ ma? Can your friend speak Chinese? B 是啊，他会说很多种外语。 Shì a, tā huì shuō hĕn duō zhòng wàiyŭ. Yes, he can speak many languages. A 哪几种呢？ Nă jĭ zhǒng ne? How many languages? B 他会说西班牙语和日语, 汉语和德语。 Tā huì shuō Xībānyáyŭ hé Rìyŭ, Hànyŭ hé Déyŭ. He can speak Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and German. Example Sentences 王 小姐 会 说 英语。 Ms. Wang knows how to speak English. Wáng xiǎojiě huì shuō Yīngyǔ. Wang little-big-sister able speak English-language. 我 不 会 说 外语。I don't know how to speak a foreign language. Wǒ bù huì shuō wàiyǔ. I not able speak external-language. 我 会 做。I know how to do it. Wǒ huì zuò. I able do. 他 不 会 做。 He does not know how to do it. Tā bù huì zuò. He able do. 他们 会 做。 They know how to do it. Tāmen huì zuò. He-plural able do. 我 不 会 写 中文。I do not know how to write Chinese. Wǒ bù huì xiě Zhōngwén. I not able write Middle-language. 我 哥哥 会 写 中文。My older brother knows how to write Chinese. Wǒ gēge huì xiě Zhōngwén. Mandarin is a tone language--that is, different pitch patterns actually distinguish one word from another. Mandarin has no irregular verbs or noun plurals to learn, because words have only a single form. Because Mandarin is completely unrelated to any European language, you may think it might be difficult to develop your vocabulary. However, it really is not that difficult. Why? The reason is that the meanings of many words consisting of two or more characters can be inferred from the meanings of the characters or even the roots of individual characters. So, your vocabulary can rapidly expand when you have grasped the basic characters and character roots. |
